RISK ASSESSMENTS
We provide vital information on the condition of your ventilation system. Under the fire precautions (workplace) regulations 1997 (as amended 1999), it is a legal requirement to undertake a formal fire safety risk assessment and implement controls where a hazard is identified.
COVID 19: HOW ARE WE ENSURING THE SAFETY OF ENGINEERS AND CLIENTS DURING THE PANADEMIC?
At Duct Control we are working with all of our engineers to ensure that they can work safely and are able to adhere to social distancing guidance. Before any appointment, they will call ahead and confirm that both they and you, and any members of the household are well, that social distancing is possible during the job at hand and that both parties are comfortable to go ahead. You may be asked to vacate the room, to open any internal doors along the journey to fitting and open windows where possible. All our engineers carry hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes and will wear the appropriate PPE during the appointment. .
WHAT ARE THE UK LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FIRE DAMPERS & DUCTS?
A wide range of relevant laws and standards apply to the installation and testing of fire dampers, including:
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

The Fire Safety Order 2005:2005 No1541, requires a responsible person to be designated for all properties. The responsible person must;
Take such precautions as will ensure, so far as reasonably practicable the safety of any of their employees and;
In relation to relevant persons who are not employees, take such general fire precautions as may reasonably be required in the circumstances of the case to ensure the premises are safe.
It is this person’s responsibility to ensure a risk assessment be undertaken for all aspects of fire risk and measures put in place.
If fire dampers are in use, one of these measures will be regular fire damper inspection and testing undertaken by a competent person. This is usually required on an annual basis, or more frequently in specific conditions, such as areas with high pollutants or dust
