TR19® Air Ventilation Cleaning & Hygiene

Dirty ductwork is a genuine fire risk and an air quality problem. We clean and verify your ventilation systems to BESA's TR19® specification — the UK's recognised standard for ventilation hygiene.

What is BESA TR19®?

TR19® is the industry standard published by the Building Engineering Services Association, setting out how ventilation systems should be cleaned, inspected and reported on. In March 2026, BESA updated TR19® Air to make post-clean reporting mandatory — meaning your compliance paperwork now needs to prove the job was done to standard, not just that it was done.

Pre-Clean Assessment

We survey your ductwork and grade its condition using TR19®'s internal cleanliness scale before any work begins.

Full System Clean

Mechanical brushing and vacuum extraction removes dust, debris and contamination from the full duct run, not just accessible sections.

Post-Clean Verification

Photographic and swab-tested evidence confirms the system meets TR19®'s cleanliness threshold, with a full compliance report.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should ductwork be cleaned to TR19®?

This depends on the building type and how heavily the ventilation system is used, but most commercial systems should be assessed at least every 1-2 years, with kitchen extract systems typically requiring more frequent cleaning.

What changed with the March 2026 TR19® Air update?

BESA introduced mandatory post-clean reporting, meaning contractors must now provide verified evidence that a clean meets the required cleanliness standard, not just a certificate confirming the work took place.

Does dirty ductwork actually increase fire risk?

Yes. Dust and debris build-up in ductwork can fuel fire spread and reduce the effectiveness of fire dampers and other fire safety systems within the ventilation network.

Can you clean ductwork without disrupting our business?

In most cases yes — we plan work around operational hours and can section off areas of a system to keep the rest running.
